Health
Inhalers for those children with asthma are kept in the medical room, clearly labelled, and are available under supervision whenever the children need them.
Never allow children to bring medicine or tablets to school unless we know about them.
We prefer not to give medicines at school, but if you child has been prescribed a medicine which has to be given 4 times a day we will give the lunchtime dose, as long as the child is well enough to be in school. Please ask your doctor if a 3 times a day antibiotic will be suitable rather than a 4 and whether you child should be at school or not.
- Label the medicine clearly with the child's name and class.
- Write on when the medicine is to be taken.
- Make sure the medicine goes to the medical room (not to be kept in the classroom).
All medicines should be clearly named and handed directly to our welfare assistant, Alma Hall, by the parent. You will need to fill in a medication sheet. She is unable to give anything directly to the eyes or ears. Whenever possible, we ask parents to give medicine to the children at home.
Children should have 24hours clear following sickness and/or diarrhoea before returning to school.
Please keep your child at home until she/he is better.
Children are told to wash their hands before dinner and also after handling animals and visiting the toilet.
Children are encouraged to have respect for themselves and their body.
Medical Inspections
You will receive an appointment from our nurse for a medical when your child is in Reception. It takes place at school. The nurse visits the school regularly to carry out regular inspections, follow up cases etc.
There is also a yearly dental screening.
